Do you own, manage, or work at, a cafe or restaurant? Would you like to make a real difference to lives in Africa? Why not join our exciting ‘Rafiki Sandwich’ project?
We are encouraging cafes, restaurants and other food-related businesses to help us raise funds for ‘Eat Well to Learn’, the school meals programme we support at Kamuganguzi Janan Lewan Memorial Secondary School, Uganda. This programme was established in recognition of the fact that many students struggle to raise enough money to pay for school meals and often spend days at school trying to learn with no food. Rafiki has really been able to make a difference by covering the cost of lunches for 70 students who were going hungry.
Each school meal we provide costs just 35p! So we are asking cafes and restaurants to come up with of asking their customers to consider donating 35p – quite literally loose change for us here in the UK but change which can make a real difference to a child in Uganda and his or her ability to learn.
One Chipping Norton cafe, Delicacy Deli, is offering customers the option of buying a Rafiki Sandwich, others (Number 24 Cafe & Express Kebab Pizza) have one of our collection tins by the till, and The Old Mill Cafe makes a monthly donation to us. We are also the chosen charity of the year of Womersley Foods and they kindly collect donations for us at trade fairs.
In just 9 months, these businesses have raised enough money to pay for 562 school meals! We would other restaurants and cafes to come on board and help us reach the 1,000 mark in the coming months. Please contact us if you would like to find out more about how to get involved in this exciting project.
