Welcome to Rafiki’s first Director

Janet Hayes OPMThe Trustees of Rafiki Thabo Foundation are delighted to announce the appointment of a Director, Janet Hayes. Up to now, the Foundation has been run by a dedicated group of voluntary Trustees but we feel that it is time for Rafiki Thabo to move to the next stage of growth and development. There is so much exciting potential for the Foundation to support even more students and their communities and that we can only do this through finding extra support for the Trustees.

Janet is committed to international development, and has worked in the sector for15 years. She first lived in (and fell in love with) Africa during her gap year with World Horizons, where she supported projects in Francophone West Africa. She has since worked for VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) and Oxford Policy Management, a consultancy firm specialising in providing policy advice to developing country governments and donors. Both roles involved frequent travel within Africa, including to Kenya and Uganda and a spell living in Tanzania. Janet now lives in the Cotswolds and spends her time juggling work and a young family. When she manages to find any free time, she enjoys walking and cycling in the beautiful surrounding countryside, reading and music.

Janet is looking forward to helping Rafiki Thabo Foundation move forward, in close consultation with the Trustees, using her knowledge of international development and East and Southern Africa and her skills in fundraising, research, strategic planning and programme development.
